URBAN FORAGERS (work-in-progress)

Is it possible to expand the idea of foraging and practice it beyond the mere procurement of materials? Is it possible to gather immaterial things as well?

Inspired by the theories and practices of Silvia Federici, Adriana Schneider and Thiago Florencio, Thiago Rosa and Johanna Ryynänen engage with the practice of foraging in the urban environment, understood as a political and performative investigation of human existence in oppressive systems of neoliberal capitalism. In doing so, they refer to the time before the agricultural revolution and to ideas that predate those of ownership, as well as to the exercise of authorship over land and other bodies in order to imagine an alternative future shaped by the past through and with performance, bodies and landscapes.

The urban space of Berlin serves as a source for the artists’ collection. Movements, words and objects are linked together through methods of walking, collecting, assembling and transforming, thus creating artistic research material.
